“Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.”
~ Samuel Butler

Juliana's News
About Juliana: I am in New England now, enjoying the cool fall days and refreshing mountain air in the Berkshires. I am teaching and giving readings, and running my usual backlog (sorry about that but thanks to all who are patiently waiting). I have begun teaching a new “Level 101: Introduction to Vedic Astrology” class for ACVA which began September 16. For more details, please visit ACVA's website at www.vedicastrology.org/registration.
I am also pleased to announce that on October 10, I will be offering an ACVA Webinar on a basic-to-intermediate topic in Vedic astrology titled “Fine Tuning Astrological Analysis and Predictions with the Bhava Kundali (House Chart).” For more details or to sign up, please see www.acvaonline.org/webinars_01

Fall Song, by Mary Oliver

Another year gone, leaving everywhere
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,

the uneaten fruits crumbling damply
in the shadows, unmattering back

from the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere

except underfoot, moldering
in that black subterranean castle

of unobservable mysteries…roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This

I try to remember when time's measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn

flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay…how everything lives, shifting

from one bright vision to another, forever
in these momentary pastures.

HAPPY NEW MOON IN VIRGO:
BLESSINGS OF THE HOLY MOTHER GODDESS!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

The New Moon in Virgo this month conjuncts Sun, Mercury and Saturn, opposite Uranus in Pisces and aspected by (square) Mars in Gemini. Saturn and Uranus are on the edge of their respective signs, indicating many changes and a sense of uncertainty. This configuration reflects great focus and intensity as well as a tendency for worry, frustration, fear, unsettling experiences and extreme sensitivity. Mercury has been retrograde in Virgo since September 8, which can make us feel we are running in circles, feeling overwhelmed with everyday “kitchen-sink reality.” Mercury will go direct on September 30, which should offer a little relief.

In the chart set for Washington, DC, the South Node (Ketu) in the eighth house reveals the possibility of a violent public tragedy, further economic concerns or a health crisis in the coming month. We may be in for a severe respiratory and/or gastrointestinal illness outbreak, as Mercury is retrograde in Virgo and conjunct the Sun, Moon and Saturn in the 10th house, and as Mars aspects this stellium of planets (Mars produces epidemics). Certainly, with all these malefic significations in Virgo (the sign of health), the debate over universal healthcare may rage on, but with perhaps a new twist.

FALL EQUINOX SEPTEMBER 22, 2009

The Autumnal or Fall Equinox occurs on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:18 PM EDT. From the Latin “aequus”/equal and “nox”/night, the equinoxes mark the two moments a year when the Sun in its apparent path along the ecliptic crosses the equator, and day and night are of equal length all over the earth. The equinoxes mark seasonal cycles as well as those of the human energy system. The two are very much connected … As Above, So Below; As Within, So Without.

The Earth reboots her energy system at the Fall Equinox, and this temporary destabilization is mirrored in our own energy systems. Kundalini (earth) energy flows intensely around the equinoxes, but we may also feel quite sensitive or unsteady at this time, too. I recommend that you avoid beginning any important projects from Sept. 21-23. This window is an important time for taking measures to harmonize body and mind. Now is the time to see your acupuncturist or chiropractor, massage therapist or holistic practitioner for a seasonal tune-up. Yoga and meditation are particularly helpful, as well.

The Autumnal (Fall) Equinox begins the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere. Fall is associated with the element of *metal* in Chinese five-element theory. As the days grow shorter in the Northern Hemisphere, the air becomes cooler and drier, and the trees begin dropping their leaves. We may also begin to feel a decline in our energy levels. This is a time for us to let go, to allow ourselves to deeply feel our longings and release our sorrows.

The metal element of autumn relates to the lungs and the colon in the body. Now is a good time for a colon cleanse! Hydrate and nourish yourself well to support your lungs. Take long hikes or any enjoyable aerobic exercise that stimulates your breath. Do pranayama! Open your heart to the sky! Eat spicy foods.

The balance point of the Fall Equinox is a valuable opportunity to prepare for the next cycle in our lives. Take time out of your busy schedule to pause and reflect, to examine what it is in your life that may need some readjustment. Remember that you are a spiritual being having a human experience, and create a ritual to reconnect with Spirit in some way. Be grateful for the fruits of all your efforts made since the Summer Solstice last June, and offer the seeds toward your dreams for the future. This New Moon marks the beginning of Navaratri (Sept 19-28), the sacred Hindu festival honoring the Divine Mother Shakti, who pours infinite blessings upon us during these nine auspicious days and nights. May you be blessed and held in Her embrace now and always.

To protect yourself from the swine flu or other contagions, follow this advice from the CDC:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after using it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
• If you do get the flu (or any contagious illness, for that matter), stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

I keep Black Elderberry syrup in my fridge to take at the first sign of a respiratory bug. Non-vegetarians may also want to keep a bottle of Standard Process Congaplex on hand to take for lungs and immune system in case of an illness: View Here

In addition, best-selling author and integrative medical specialist Dr. Andrew Weil suggests: “ … taking a daily antioxidant, multivitamin-mineral supplement, as well as astragalus, a well-known immune-boosting herb that can help ward off colds and flu. Also consider mushroom-based immune modulators such as Host Defense or Mycosoft Gold.” Please see Dr. Weil's website for more details: Avoiding-Swine-Flu
