Juliana's News
I am home in Hawaii now, where the sultry summer heat is often relieved by swims in the invigorating and resplendent Pacific Ocean. I will be back on the mainland/East Coast and traveling for a few weeks beginning the night of August 23. I will be returning back to my home in the Berkshires September 8, where I plan to stay until late October! I am currently working on readings, enjoying my work with private students and also am thrilled to be teaching a Level II/Module 202 class for the American College of Vedic Astrology: http://www.vedicastrology.org/sample.html
On October 10, I will be offering a webinar for ACVA titled "Fine Tuning Astrological Analysis and Predictions with the Bhava Kundali (House Chart)": http://www.acvaonline.org/webinars_01.php
Finally, I am pleased to announce my recent affiliation with the International College of Astrology, where I plan to offer an introductory course in Vedic astrology in the future: http://www.astrocollege.com/

The August New Moon occurs on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 6:01:35 AM in Washington, DC. To astrologers, the New Moon is a time for new beginnings. In mundane forecasting as well as in most lunar calendars, the New Moon marks the commencement of the new lunar month. We examine the lunation chart for the month and use it to prognosticate the impending cycle of events. For those of us following lunar calendars, August 20 is understood to be the first of the new month! In the Muslim lunar calendar, this New Moon marks the beginning of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan. However, for technical reasons, the beginning of Ramadan will not be officially observed until August 22 this year: www.qppstudio.net/public-holidays-news/2009/usa__united_states__002582.htm
The August 20th New Moon and its influence will extend until the next New Moon on September 18, 2009.The New Moon occurs once a month when the Moon and Sun line up to rise and set together. A day or so before the New Moon, we can usually see a thin crescent Moon before sunrise in the eastern sky; and a few days after New Moon, we can see a thin crescent Moon for a short while after sunset in the western sky. However, the actual New Moon cannot be seen at all since its light is obscured by the Sun.
I cast New Moon charts (see below) for Washington, DC (political home of the United States) and New York City (financial hub of the global economy). I also looked at Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States (Kelleher chart), and Boston, where the Sun and Moon are exactly on the Ascendant (rising constellation/at sunrise). What is most striking about these charts is that their Ascendants are in the precarious gandanta zone, spanning late Cancer and early Leo.
