Mundane astrology is the branch of astrology applied to world affairs and world events (mundus is the Latin word for “world”). There are a variety of ways to cast mundane charts. As an example, national affairs can be evaluated from the horoscope set for the time and place of an inauguration or the signing of a treaty, charter or constitution. Many astrologers are studying the chart for Barack Obama’s inauguration on January 20th at 12 PM. This chart may reveal some important trends ahead for not only Obama’s administration but also for the United States and the rest of the world.
A variety of celestial phenomena are also important for mundane forecasting, including lunations (new and full Moon cycles), planetary stations, comets, conjunctions of planets, eclipses and ingresses. The latter term refers to the entry of a planet or luminary into a particular sign. *Please note that I use the Sidereal zodiac exclusively, whereas most Western astrologers use the Tropical zodiac that is about 23-24 degrees ahead of the Sidereal zodiac due to Precession of the Equinoxes.
